Dragon, by Built by Titan, ft. Skybourne

”When I was younger, I had a dragon

We would fly away to places you can't imagine

And this is a story on a lonely island

With a boy who'd found a way to become a lion

On our way to London, up on the tower

We would spend our nights and days, burning the hours

Oh, I remember as I looked in the mirror

Saw I was brave enough this time, as I came nearer

Sometimes you gotta stand for something

Sometimes you gotta stand your ground

So I'll keep my head up, I'll keep my head up

I'll keep my head up

I got the fire, I got the fire, I got the fire

I got the fire this time

I'll take it higher, I'll take it higher

'Cause I got the fire

Under the ocean, I found a treasure

It was my heart, not gold or silver that you could measure

Just a king of my castle, going to battle

Ain't no giant here too tall I couldn't handle

…..

See the stars that align at night

Like the distance between your eyes

It's the lightning I feel inside

Tell me that ain't magic

Hear the horses running wild

To the first steps of a child

Feel the thunder with all her might

Tell me that ain't magic

Don't tell me it ain't real

So tell me it ain't true

'Cause I see the fire

The fire in you”

Golden Moonrise

Golden Moonrise

Mixed Media on Cradled Panel
30” x 42”

in early 2020, as the world panicked about the effects of Covid-19, my husband’s side of the family gathered for an evening unlike any I’d seen before.

Each household brought their own camping chairs, and trekked out into a reed-filled wetland area to watch the rising of a supermoon.

Spread far enough to stay safe, but close enough to engage in much-needed laughter and family bonding, we talked as the sun went down. The panic surrounding the pandemic had gotten to all of us, and uncertainty threaded through the conversations.

When suddenly there was a gasp, and we collectively turned.

Quietly, smoothly, gracefully She rose.

No trumpets announced her coming. No grand rays of golden light spilled down below. It was too cold for crickets, so nothing on earth announced her arrival. No birds sang, and the winds were calm.

But nevertheless, she was magnificent. This Celestial body, powerful enough to move entire oceans with her presence, rose and quietly, calmly brought peace to a world in turmoil.

“Study in Integration” is an image of layers of liquid mixing together.  Each layer is beautiful alone.  However, they are each much more interesting and beautiful together - lending their own voice to a community of different looks, views, and experience.  No layer is better than the other.  Each has culture, knowledge, and a wealth of good to share with the next person, their communities, and the world.  Each adds interest to the clean canvas of the world.

By Candlelight

Candles have become a truly meditative practice for me in the past year. The movement of the candlelight throws images on walls in a way that gives beauty a near-hypnosis deep thought I crave.

I have discovered that the many effects in my artwork give the same result.

In this work, I explore the intersection of these two loves - art and candlelight, for “By Candlelight”

Whale Shark

”Look, it’s a whale!”
”Is it…a shark?”
Yes to both, this piece celebrates one of my favorite creatures in the ocean. A gentle giant so large a diver seems to disappear in its majesty.

May we all grow and develop in such a way to bring others to us, and then use that power for good.

Bonus: turning off the lights causes the background to melt away and the silver leaf to seek any glimmer of light, causing this incredible piece to glow.

Silver School

Leafing is one of my favorite mediums. Besides the clean edges and crisp lines that can be achieved, I can’t beat the effect of turning off the lights, and watching the metal seek out any glimmer of light in the dark, and shine like a light. The entire background melts away, and the metal stands alone.

One fish is beautiful, but a school - moving together - cannot be beat. May we each find our community of common purpose, and move together in a powerful and beautiful way. And then seek for any light in the darkness, and shine.

This piece is incredible in the way the gold interacts with red - popping up, swirling around, and overall showing off the depth that made me fall in love with this medium.

Even the bleakest of places, and the most simple color combinations can create stunning results. May we remember that in our own lives. There is no reason to push further than we have strength. We don’t need to detest ourselves because we “don’t naturally have blue” even if all our neighbors do.

Embrace your own gifts and talents, and do everything you can to grow and magnify those, whether or not they are anything like those around you.

Modern Foliage

This piece is one of color - much like what I’d find in a forest, but more reminiscent of what I find in a city that is working to mimic what was originally built by God.

This piece is a reminder that none of us can truly imitate what is around us. Finding comfort and beauty where we are and improving on ourselves and our environment simply to the end of creating our own work of art creates the best results.

Wave of Change

Lisa Draper

24” x 35.5”
Mixed Media Resin on Board
Wired and Ready to Hang

As I watch the world around me, change -both good and bad - seems to come in waves.

Waves that remind me of Tsunamis….the tide comes out, everyone watches breathless for a moment, and then the pandemonium sets in. And just like a huge wave crashing back in without warning, buildings, people, and the entire culture is shifted as change sweeps in and moves all in its wake.

May we make the change in our lives change that builds and creates. And when the destruction does inevitably come, may we rebuild something more beautiful than what was there before.

Gethsemane

Lisa Draper

24” x 36”
Mixed Media Resin on Board
Wired and ready to hang

This ball of light is Christ laying on a rock, as the powers of Darkness seep through him, during his atonement for our sins.

Above this small detail, The Destroyer, in the form of a great beast, pushes down on his body, and looks up in disdain as an angel descends from Heaven, to comfort Christ through his suffering.

Below Christ and The Destroyer, chains that bind the Olive Tree (and all of us) to Hell are beginning to break.

This piece brings together many beliefs I have about the sacrifice of Christ for me.

As I have studied scripture, and works of fiction that have alluded to the atonement, such as CS Lewis's work "The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe", I have come to know my Savior as a being of great light and love. I know that he took on my debt, to allow Mercy to replace Justice.

I will be forever grateful.
He lives.

The Futile Escape of Jonah

Lisa Draper

24” x 30”
Mixed Media on Board
Framed in black float frame, ready to hang

I have always been fascinated by the story of Jonah. Here is a man who truly dedicated his whole life to his God - until one day the task just was too hard. And God provided a way for him to try again, and understand that all of God’s children were worth saving.

But (spoiler) even after he fulfilled his task, he didn’t understand. He didn’t get that God cared about everyone, and that - just like he got another chance after leaving knowingly - the people of Ninevah (who hadn’t even realized they were so far off) got another chance as well. Jonah ends in a beautiful way for the people of Ninevah, and very unsatisfying for Jonah, who chooses to sit and wait for a destruction that would never come.

May we all see the worth of those around us, and rejoice when we see others change, instead of holding over their heads all that they have forsaken.
